The Objectification of Ms Middleton

The Objectification of Ms Middleton

There’s almost no way on earth that you could not have been aware of the recent Royal Wedding – believe me, I tried hard enough! But how many people are aware of the extraordinary attention that Pippa Middleton -Kate’s sister- has received since the occasion. Due to a variety of factors I ended up watching most of the main ceremony on tele. It was slow but mildly entertaining (Prince Harry swaggering down the aisle), but if anything could be said about the Maid of Honour (Pippa Middleton) it would probably be that she looked good. Yes, she didn’t look unattractive, but nothing crazily out of the ordinary. If you look back at the pictures, she had a modest hair-do, no jewellery to really speak...

World’s First 3D Porn Films Heads to U.S.

The world’s first 3-D porn film that broke Hong Kong box-office records is headed to the U.S. China Lion Film Distribution has announced that it bought the North American rights to “3-D Sex and Zen: Extreme Ecstasy”. A release date has yet to be determined. The movie has grossed more than US$6.2 million globally since it opened April 14, with $4.9 million of that coming from Hong Kong. It has also been released in Taiwan, South Korea, Australia and New Zealand. Reviews, however, have not been as glowing as the sales figures. Sukhdev Sandu writes in  The Telegraph “The film goes on for too long, and gets darker as it does so… The 3D is mostly a marketing gimmick.” “Perhaps the most important revelation…is...

Playboy Club Protest June 4th

Playboy Club Protest June 4th

A new Playboy club is opening in Mayfair, London on June 4th 2011. The new club comes 30 years after its predecessor establishment, which was also based in Mayfair , closed after a police raid for suspected gambling irregularities. Playboy clubs are just one of a myriad of products licensed by Playboy Enterprises, an international pornography corporation whose outputs include a mix of pornographic films, websites, TV programming and children’s stationary. Playboy is a multi-million pound, multi-national porn empire which makes its money out of exploiting and degrading women. It markets its brand to children through playboy pencil cases and bed covers, and it grooms young girls into porn culture. In its clubs women are objectified and sexualised as fluffy animals who are marketed...

Indian Cybercafe Porn Trade

PATNA : Among the city’s teenagers, particularly boys, watching pornography— seems to have become a habit. Over the past few years, this furtive doing has taken over other extra-curricular activities. An investigative visit to different cybercafes in the city provides some interesting findings. A check of the web browsing history at a cyber café in Boring Road revealed that of the 100 web pages, 80 page titles referred to pornographic materials and porn video downloads. Cybercafes in the city are mostly frequented by school and college-going boys and girls. They download porn movies in their mobile phones and also store them in data cards. Cybercafé owners have not limited themselves to allowing porn surfing to the visitors. Many...

Women Addicted to Porn?

Women Addicted to Porn?

An article last month in a national daily newspaper in the UK looked at the supposed rise in the incidence of porn ‘addiction’ among women. “At Quit Porn Addiction, the UK’s main porn counselling service, almost one in three clients are women struggling with their own porn use, says founder and counsellor Jason Dean. Two years ago, there were none.” 1 in 3! This sounds pretty dramatic! But surely it can be explained if we look a little closer. Perhaps most importantly it is worth noting that the number of users of porn, and the number of users who feel worried enough about their usage to seek counselling are not necessarily correlative. Despite this dramatic rise in the number of users of one ‘porn...

Dines on Porn Addiction

I, like several people, have been cautious about using the term ‘addiction’ when refering to pornography use. Porn addiction is not a recognised medical term, and at times I’ve thought it possibly comparable to being addicted to chocolate or coffee. Indeed a recent (pro-porn) article in the Washington examiner commented on addiction: “Critics claim that pornography can take over some people’s lives, but so can fantasy baseball. Porn addiction is not a recognized psychiatric disorder. And what if it were? Alcoholism is a form of addiction, but we don’t ban wine.” This of course, ignores the wider social problems that porn addiction and use generally can have -that fantasy baseball doesn’t. I n any case, the writer also presumes that all those concerned about...

World’s First 3D Porn Film

“The world’s first 3D porn film -a reworking of the 1991 cult film Sex And Zen- opened last month in Hong Kong and Taiwan. Based on a classic Chinese erotic text, The Carnal Prayer Mat, the movie centres on a young man who gets a taste of courtly peccadilloes and features what Mr Shiu describes as “very graphic sex scenes”… In a collaboration with his father, Stephen Shiu Senior, Mr Shiu produced the original 1991 erotic film Sex and Zen – which made £1.6m at the box office and is still a soft-core legend in Hong Kong lore. That film has kicked off an entirely new series of Category III, or X-rated, movies. The porn industry is desperate to make a comeback after being...

Porn-Blocking and Conservative Motives

TalkTalk’s new HomeSafe system is supposed to provide network-level filters against pornography. HomeSafe is also meant to provide protection against malware, as well as other types of content such as gambling and violent websites. Despite all the talk about malware and gambling sites it is no secret that this move is a direct response to the calls from Culture Minister Ed Vaizey and Conservative MP Claire Perry for ISPs to offer an (optional) filter to prevent access to pornographic sites. The Government met ISPs, including TalkTalk, earlier this year to discuss how ISPs might implement such a block. Other ISPs such as BT and Virgin have since responded with claims that such a filter as called for by the Government is not possible leaving...
